Our energy law team has decades of experience forging solid solutions for clients in all sectors of the energy industry.

With extensive expertise spanning various sectors within the field, we offer consultancy, transactional, and dispute resolution services to a broad spectrum of national and international clients in key business and industry domains. Combining our long-standing ties with the energy sector, our lawyers have drawn on both individual expertise and collective knowledge to establish a specialized energy practice group with proven, comprehensive capabilities across various sectors in the energy industry.

We have worked with the oil and gas sector since the 1980s (downstream retail, midstream refineries and upstream exploration and exploitation) for international conglomerates. We have also worked in the natural gas sector (pipeline construction, wholesale supply, and so forth), and provided advice on the construction of wind farms.

An indicative range of issues on which we have supported our clients over the years includes commercial and construction contract drafting for energy projects, energy project development and financing, procurement, regulatory compliance and licensing, financial restructuring, intellectual property protection, M&As, private equity, and tax matters.

Beyond these services, we have a track record of success in energy, technology, and finance-related litigation and arbitration, including international arbitrations (ICC/LCIA), covering diverse matters from petroleum futures contracts to construction disputes related to wind farms.

Areas of expertise

Few Greek firms can claim our experience in Oil and Gas. In the 1980s we advised in the retail petroleum sector and pipeline construction, in the mid-1990s in the refinery segment, and in the late 1990s we advised on the first ever Greek exploration licencing round. Thereafter we advised on the construction of complex facilities in refineries and the supply of materials to refineries. Between 2015-2022 we acted as legal advisers in relation to three Oil & Gas concessions, the regulatory environment and farm-out agreements.

We have advised private clients and state companies on privatisation processes. We have also advised clients in natural gas supply agreements, including small scale industrial supply joint ventures.

Among others, we recently advised a major, privately owned electricity producer on all aspects of its procurement and commercial retail policy, including supply contracts, contracts for difference and commercial policies. We have also advised and implemented a major joint venture between two market leaders to establish an electricity production plant and secured competition clearance.

Our team has long been involved in the evolving renewable energy industry from the early stage of investment and tax structuring to the development, financing, permitting, construction and operation of the full breadth of renewable projects. We have been involved in the development and acquisition of wind farms and biogas facilities, developments of off-shore wind farms and a Floating Storage Regasification Unit, and the development of a pilot concentrated solar energy project. In addition to the above, we have extensive ICC arbitration experience in the construction of wind farms.
